Imagine travelling around India with your eyes closed. What will you hear? From the plains to the mountains, from cities to the rivers, from local trains to pedestrians, your ears will take in an extraordinary variety of sounds.
Some might even call it an auditory assault.
Now, open your eyes, and watch the video above for the sights that accompany this diverse soundscape. The three-minute audio-visual “blitz” (as creators call it) was captured and put together by Distraction Lab, travelling from Mumbai to Darjeeling, then further up into the Himalayas of north Sikkim, and finally down to Varanasi.
These are the sounds that the one-month-ling journey yielded for this film which somehow converts chaos into a life-reaffirming experience. Maybe it’s the bells. Or the final, peaceful sound of oars entering the water.
