Watch the spectacular moment 245 people jumped off a bridge together
Don’t worry, they were tied to a rope.
One person rope-jumping off a 30-metre-high bridge is impressive. But 245 people rope-jumping off the same bridge at the same time is another matter altogether.
Attached to a harness with a nylon rope, 245 daredevil men and women simultaneously jumped off a 98-feet tall bridge in Hortolandia, Brazil, on Sunday. The videos show the jumpers form an intriguing wave-like formation as they sway like a massive human-pendulum under the bridge. Unlike bungee jumping, in this particular extreme sport the rope doesn’t bounce back, which contributed largely to the swinging motion.
The adventurers were attempting to break a world record, which was previously set in Brazil itself, when 149 people jumped together in April, 2016. Unofficially, this group broke the world record, though Guinness World Records is yet to recognise it. The group used an astounding 20-kilometres of rope and 1,000 harnesses, which involved a fair amount of planning and checking to ensure every single harness was sturdy and secure.
