Being an independent musician in India is not the easiest thing, for both up-and-coming and well-established artistes. Just ask the singer-songwriter and SPAG (solo percussive acoustic guitarist) from Delhi, Dhruv Visvanath

With a little help from A Little Anarky, Visvanath breaks it down for everyone else. Random song requests are not appreciated. Even though people may be discouraging, he always has his “trophies” (insert eyeroll) to flaunt (not really). And the one person with something nice to say usually ends up complimenting his eyebrows and his attractive guitar.

Visvanath’s fans have invaded the stage more than once. “I’ll just be playing and suddenly I’ll find a third hand on my (guitar’s) strings,” he says. They also want him to write songs about their failed relationships. His neighbours sometimes hear him playing his guitar in his bathroom – in his defence, that’s the best place to write music.

We’ll wait to find out what being an independent stand-up comic in India is like.
