In the aftermath of the Uri attacks, multiple videos have been shared on social media to drum up a feeling of patriotism. These videos often have titles along the lines of “Watch Pakistan being humiliated by ...”

Now it's the turn of a video of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. It's from a panel discussion that Tharoor was part of at the Penguin Random House Spring Fever 2016 festival, which took place in March. The panel included author Taslima Nasreen, journalist Hindol Sengupta, former High Commissioner to Pakistan TCA Raghavan, former Commissioner of Delhi Police Neeraj Kumar, and South Asia expert Husain Haqqani. The topic: “Pakistan is in the eye of the beholder”.

In the video, Tharoor mentions multiple problems that India faces while negotiating peace with Pakistan:

“Kashmir is not the core problem...the real problem between India and Pakistan is the nature of the Pakistani state...In India, the state has the army. In Pakistan, the army has the state.”

“There is no country in the world whose military disposes of so much of its country’s budget or GDP!

“There’s nothing other than peace that we want from Pakistan. But Pakistan wants more... While their foreign minister is in Delhi, discussing visa liberalisation, 26/11 happens in Mumbai.”

Taken out of context, and combined with the fact that he only spoke about the problems with Pakistan, the video has, not surprisingly, become a favourite on Twitter in particular.
