The latest Coldplay song Up&Up was released on Monday with a music video that is just straight up beautiful. Eagles soar under the sea, synchronised swimmers perform in a tea cup, a dishwashing sponge becomes a football field. The band members are scaled up so that they can walk among mountains and clouds, and the galaxy is what you see outside a train window.

Everyday things take on a whimsical note. And while that may not sound exceptional, it's visually a very arresting music video indeed.

The band’s website released it with the message, “We’re pleased to reveal the incredible new video for Up&Up, the anthemic third single from Coldplay’s current album, A Head Full Of Dreams.

Created by Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia, the video is a poignant, surrealist montage which alludes to contemporary issues. It also features racehorses galloping on water, a turtle floating down a subway platform and a popcorn-spouting volcano.”

There seems to be a definite plea for the planet here. Lines like “We’re gonna get it, get it together,” resonate with hope, just as much of the band’s music tends to.

Lead singer Chris Martin recently cast doubts over the chances of any more albums from the band. “I’d be surprised if there was another conventional Coldplay album,” he said in an interview.

“I feel like this is a closing chapter of something. I stand by that, I'm afraid.”
