Before the Nobel controversy, the dance: watch Sri Sri Ravi Shankar bust a move to a Bollywood song
Although the Art of Living founder has been in the news for a string of controversies, his joie de vivre remains intact.
Questioning Malala Yousoufzai’s winning the Nobel Prize and claiming that he rejected it is not the only strange move Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has made of late. Here he is in the video above, busting a move to the song Jiya dhadak dhadk jaye from the 2001 film Kalyug.
The dance, in this case, is a rather literal interpretations of the lyrics. Clearly thrilled by the music and the cheers from the audience, Shankar tosses flowers at them with glee, though some don’t make it past the stage. Admirers lap up the dance, and Shankar loves the adulation.
Shankar's own relationship with Bollywood has been strained, though. In the 2012 satirical film on religious leaders Oh My God, Mithun Chakraborty played a spiritual guru whose character was inspired by Shankar. The actor was modelled on Shankar's looks and also imitated his mannerisms.
Shankar criticised the film-business (video below), saying, "People who systematically attack values of the society and the culture of the country, are in some mischief, I tell you. They say all ashrams are bad. You can't put all ashrams into one basket. You can't say all temples are simply looting money. They take religion and beat up the religion, a new trend that has come up in society."
