Earlier this week, two Muslim women were beaten up by members of a local right wing party in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly carrying beef. Apparently, even somewhat powerful people with positions of authority cannot escape the hands of an enraged citizenry in the BJP-ruled state.

The above video, shot in Santhod village in the Mandsaur district of MP on July 23, shows the brutal beating that Lokayukta special judge Rajvardhan Gupta received at the hands of passersby after his car hit and injured a young boy.

As a result of the incident, the MP High Court has initiated a suo moto petition against the state government and concerned officials, to be heard on August 1.

But who will stop the fury of the mob in an increasingly volatile India?
