McDonald’s chicken nuggets and burgers are among the most popular features on the fast food joint’s menu. Whether in children's Happy Meals or in a McChicken, the white meat is all over the place. But how happy is your happy meal? A shocking video from an animal rights group has lifted the veil on the horrific treatment meted out to chicken on farms that supply places like McDonalds, which effectively amounts to torture.

Tyson Foods is the biggest supplier of chickens to McDonalds, one of the world's largest processors and marketers of meat. Tyson gets this meat from a huge supply chain of farms from across the united states, including the one in Tennessee which was exposed by Mercy for Animals, an animal rights group.

The video shows farmers pouring thousands of chickens into an extremely closed space, causing many chickens to die of claustrophobia. The torture is yet to come. The dead chickens are left as they are, while the living ones are killed mercilessly. The video features thousands of birds dying of organ failure and heart-attack because of abrupt and unnatural growth in their bodies. People are also shown stomping and bludgeoning the birds until they die.

Mercy for Animals claims this is not an isolated incident, and that it has released more than 40 videos showing similar sorts of treatment. The video has prompted Tyson Foods to break off its business deal with the Tennessee farm that uses these practices, with McDonalds saying it will jointly probe the matter with Tyson.

“We're working with Tyson Foods to further investigate this situation and reinforce our expectations around animal health and welfare at the farm level," an official from McDonalds said.

But that’s not it. Mercy of Animals have also asked McDonalds to adopt a number of animal welfare policies which includes the stopping of animal breeding with chemicals, giving them enough space to breed and allow a better mechanism to produce meat.
